誕生日
久しぶりに日記のようなものを書いてみよう。
10月25日は実家で飼っていた"ギン"（雄犬1984?~2000）の誕生日。ということで、日が変わる前に黙祷した。その時思い出したのが、ギンの誕生日はボクが勝手に決めたってこと。
理由は８６年の１０月２５日にギンのご飯がステーキ（古くなって、おかんが食卓に出すのを諦めたステーキ用の肉を焼いたもの…。）だったから。悪くなった肉にしゃぶりつくギンの姿があまりに幸せそうだったもんで、「よしっ今日はお前の誕生日だ！」って勝手に決めたのが約２０年前の１０月２５日。あれから２０年。まったく早いもんだ。
ギンはもともと小学２年だったボクが当時好きな女の子からもらって来た。ある日学校に行くと、その子が「きのう子犬を拾ったんやけど、ウチは借家やけん飼えんのよ…」っていうから、オレに任せとけってな調子で話を勝手に進めてしまった…。
学校が終わって家に帰り、親に話したらビックリするぐらい猛反対された。それでもなんとか「子犬＝可愛い」ということだけを売り文句に押し切って、次の日の放課後その子の家まで引き取りに行くことになった。
初めて行く好きな子の家が楽しみでしょうがなかった。「連れて来るから近くで待ってて」って言ってるその子の意見も聞かずに家まで一緒について行った。すると、到着したのは古惚けた木造の、お世辞にも"綺麗"とは言えない長家だった。見たことないほど散らかった部屋に、その子はお母さんとお兄ちゃんと３人で住んでいるらしい。お母さんは夜の仕事をしていて留守がちだって言ってた。その子が見せたくなかった部分を無理やりこじ開けたような気がしてすごく後悔した。
そんな懺悔の念をもろに背負って、引きつった顔を悟られまいと必至で演技しながら、子犬が待つという裏口へ向かった。ドアを開ければ子犬が待っている。子犬というのは、コロコロ、ムクムクしてて、呼んだら嬉しそうにシッポを振って走って来るような、そして途中でコロンと転んでしまうような、そんなイメージだった。期待に胸を膨らませ、ドアを開けた。
すると、中には、ガリガリで死神のような子犬がぷるぷる震えていた。
（えー！家族に怒られるー!!!）って正直思ったけど、またまた引きつった顔を見られてはいけないと思って「可愛いね」などと世辞を言った。なんとまぁ阿呆なんだろう…。
本当は子犬を見た瞬間、約束を無しにして欲しいと思った。昨日あんなに反対されていた家族の元に連れて帰るには、あまりに辛すぎるビジュアルだ…。でも今更やめるとは言えずに、半泣きのまま首輪にヒモを付けて連れて帰った。
歩きながら田んぼのあぜ道で名前をつけた。由来は当時流行っていた漫画「銀河流れ星 銀」から大胆にサンプリング。ガリッガリのギンは漫画の主人公とは打って変わって全身が真っ茶色だった。家で待っている家族にウケが悪いのは承知の上。でも、どうしようもなくて「可愛い」と言い張った。
家族の皆はボクの複雑な気持ちを空気で感じてくれたみたいで、あんまり何も言わなかった。全身茶色なのだが足先だけが白く、長い靴下と短い靴下をチグハグに履いているように見えるのが唯一のチャームポイントだった。
そんなギンが死んで早４年。死んだことを聞いた時は涙がたくさん出たけど、今はアホな思い出を思い出す方が圧倒的に多い。良くも悪くも、冷たくも温かくも、それがリアルなんだろう。
他にもうちの実家では、出て行ったまま帰って来ない猫のニャアちゃんや、飼い始めて一週間で死んだ犬のコロ、野良猫に食べられたのか、羽を残してカゴから消えたインコなどを通して生と死について教育を受けた。ような気がする…。

たまたまここに辿り着き、何気なく読んでいましたら、2年前に亡くなった私の愛犬も10月２５日がお誕生日だったことをすっかり忘れていた事に気づきました。
思い出させてくれて、ありがとう。

その後ギンが家族に愛されたエピソードは…
一杯ありすぎて書くとキリがないから一つだけ紹介するよ。
強烈に記憶にこびりついてて多分死ぬまで忘れないやつ。
それは家族で散歩に行ってギンがウンコする時、兄ちゃんがギンにインタビューするっていう、当時家族内で大ウケだった兄ちゃんの鉄板ネタ。どう説明すればいいのかね。ウンコの体制になってプルプルしているギンに兄ちゃんが「ギンさん！今の心境を一言！」とか言いながらしつこく何度もマイクを向けると、ギンが何ともやるせない表情をする。っていう、いかにも小学生が好きそうな下品なギャグ。
うわー！文章で伝えるのって難しい。全然おもんなさそう。
でもこれが当時のボクらにとっては最高に面白かったんよ。死ぬ程大笑いしたのを思い出す。
そしてウンコが終わったギンは、何もなかった感を猛烈にアピールしようとメチャメチャ元気になってボクの回りを飛び跳ねながらヒモをグイグイ引っ張るのだ！って、なんだこれ？まぁいいか…。天国から怒られそだね。
